Since 1984, we have been publishing free newspapers and publications domestic trade , perfecting a profitable business model that has grown to over 50 titles. For the first time, we are actively seeking new partners from outside our existing business to launch more successful publishing ventures.

In the past we have launched projects only with people who have worked for quite a long time in our existing companies. All of these people were hatched in telesales, harvesting advertising for our titles, and were able to demonstrate that all the requisite skills were to hand in order to ensure the success of a new title. Naturally producing business people in this way is a slow process, probably all the more so, as most of the individuals who apply for a position as a sales office trainee will never have the qualities that are essential to run a successful enterprise, even with our help, so only a very small percentage of our staff will be able ultimately, to go into a partnership with us. If the disadvantage is that this method has condemned us to ‘Open a lot of oysters to find a pearl’, the advantage has been that the business risk has been small, and the new publications and businesses overwhelmingly successful.

Now however, we are attempting to find individuals, whose primary motivation is to be in business, and therefore possess the kind of driven personality that is a pre-requisite for successful entrepreneurs, but who may lack both the capital and the specific knowledge to embark single-handed on a venture.

Our proposition is this: We will firstly interview an applicant to try to assess if they have the right composition in terms of ability and character. We will then make an offer of a straightforward job in a telesales office, which will be salaried in the usual way. In this uncomplicated way the new recruit can obtain training in a real environment, whilst contributing at the same time to a publication. This also has the advantage that we can see if both parties feel compatible. Following a successful outcome to this training we will set up a new business with our recruit, at this point we will require £5,000. for share purchase.

The equity in the new venture will be 30% to the new Director, with the remaining 70% divided between the existing partners. Initially the debts in the business will be underwritten by the existing directors, which will allow the new Director to draw a salary, and use of a car, even whilst the business is in it’s infancy.

Whereas one business is unlikely on it’s own to result in great wealth, it should provide a steady income, and most importantly a foundation for the addition of new publications, which over a period of time we have come to regard as our get rich slow scheme!

ABOUT YOU

You must be Driven, Tough and Single-Minded, but you should also be a friendly affable and optimistic character for whom the glass is forever half full. You will be employing some young people who sometimes lack basic social skills, so you must be well disciplined, and able to create a team based on achievement and fun. As an employer you will discover that a carrot rather than a stick is the only inducement.

You can be young or old, but on the whole the operation prizes the energy of youth rather than the timidity of age, So if you are ancient and full of youthful energy we want to hear from you, and if you are but young and lack energy but are full of timidity,we don’t!

If you are currently receiving a large salary, and cannot afford to live on a subsistence, whilst starting a business, it is unlikely that you will be able to make the sacrifices that are a requirement in setting up a new business even in partnership, as although we provide the means for a living wage this is probably based on our own experiences, which were quite spartan when we started out.

You must be able to sell. Our business plan is all teeth and no stomach, so a degree in creative writing would be pointless without a concomitant sales ability, and equally an individual of questionable literacy will succeed provided the sales ability is present.

ABOUT US

We publish around 50 free newspaper titles, each one a separate limited company. Our accounts and production are based in Derby, and our sales offices are in Derby, Nottingham, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Rugby, Bristol, Slough, Gloucester, Taunton and Cardiff.

Each one of the businesses employs about 6 full time staff.

Our Directors are both Men and Women, aged between 22yrs and 65.
